Yes, I do remember this ad.

It symbolizes much of what went wrong in Ireland during the run up to the property crash; widespread ignorance about personal finances, inadequate bank regulations and the tracker mortgage.

McWilliams narrates the story of the tracker and why it puts a huge brake on the recovery of the Irish economy for years to come.

Eine stärkere Regulierung der Finanzmärkte, die Einbeziehung des Schattenbankensystems, die Offenlegung von Kapitalströmen durch sogenannte Offshore-Oasen zur Steuervermeidung und vieles mehr waren heisse Themen kurz nach Ausbruch der Finanzkrise 2008. Politiker jeglicher Couleur überschlugen sich mit Absichtserklärungen und Vorschlägen wie sich all dies ändern solle. Passiert ist hingegen wenig bis nichts. Bleibt die Frage nach dem warum. Nicholas Shaxson gibt in einem Interview mit der Zeit – Steueroasen: “Es soll nicht zu merken sein”  einige interessante Antworten.
